About the event

Instructor:  Haunter Darren

In this workshop, we’ll explore Shadow Box Assemblage Art. I’ll discuss arranging objects and creating depth in a shallow space utilizing a variety of media and found objects. You’ll learn about composition, layering and gluing techniques. And I’ll teach you some of my aging, deteriorating and gore effects to add just the right amount of the macabre to your piece.

Students are asked to provide their own Shadow Box, which is a case with a glass front used for displaying keep sakes and other small items (as in the photo).  Or, if you don’t have one, a cigar box will be provided to you, and you can simply learn the techniques to make any kind of shadow box display.

I will also supply you with collage papers, photos, ephemera and other curious objects that you can assemble into your own piece. But you’re encouraged to bring any special objects that you have to personalize your piece, or to turn into a seasonal gift for someone special.

Students should have a preliminary idea in mind for their assemblage - perhaps it is a personal memory, an emotion, or an interesting narrative that could be explored in this fascinating art form. The goal is to complete a finished construction by the end of the workshop.

To better plan your assemblage piece, come to the gallery prior to the beginning of class to see examples and discuss the possibilities. The gallery is open, as if you don’t already know, Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays from Noon to 6 pm.

The class is $20 per student, covering the cost of materials and supporting the gallery.

*** NOTICE:  This is an 18+ adults only class because of the use of hot glue guns, sharp objects, and possibly disturbing subject matter. ***
